My name is Nicole and I live with my sweet husband, Patrick, in Aggieland, aka, Bryan/College Station, Texas! We met on a blind date to a football game in 2002, married 3 years later, and decided we loved this town too much to leave after school. We enjoy spending time together in the kitchen and love to host a good party! (UPDATE: we no longer live in Aggieland! Keep reading to see where we are now!)
The name Macaron and White came about while having a conversation with a friend about macarons. It’s sort of a play on “maroon and white”, the colors of Texas A&M. The concept has morphed through the years. Originally, I wanted to pursue macaron creations in the kitchen. I still love the dainty cookies with flavorful, unusual fillings, but my word, they are hard to make! Then Macaron and White the blog was born. I spent a little time on this playing around in the kitchen and photographing different fun creations while also spotlighting some businesses in Aggieland.
A little while after I began the blog, the aforementioned friend told my husband that they should pick up the increasingly lost art of penmanship. They each purchased cartridge pens and started practice with them. One night, I decided to use Patrick’s pen to address some baby shower invitations I had created. Something was ignited when I was putting pen to those envelopes. I’ve always loved writing in cursive. I remember being in kindergarten and asking my grandmother if she would start teaching me cursive. Later, in middle school, I was interested in Italic calligraphy, though I never quite pursued it. However, this old love resurfaced and I was hooked. I purchased some calligraphy supplies and books and even got a job with a friend to do her wedding invitations!
Since then, I have not stopped writing. I have had very large jobs and smaller ones. Many hours have been spent in my studio with my calligraphy rituals – candle burning, Netflix on, coffee in one hand and my writing tools in the other. You know something is truly a passion when you finish a very tedious amount of work but still long to do more. I hope to do much more for years to come!
My husband and I recently took a leap of faith and moved to New York. Being in a city rich with history, full of beautiful art and architecture, amazing food and drinks, and a melting pot of culture is infusing me with creativity and joy. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for my creative process.
